Outdoor Cushions – A Guide

How to Use Scatter Cushions to Decorate Your Home
Scatter cushions are one of the easiest items you can use to transform an old and boring living space into something vibrant and new. If used appropriately, these cushions can make a huge difference in any living space. In case you don’t consider yourself a good interior decorator, the following tips will help you understand how you can use scatter cushions to spruce up any room in your house.

How to Select the Right Type of Scatter Cushions
One of the biggest mistakes you can make is choosing matching cushions – these days are long gone! Scatter cushions are meant to compliment your furniture, not blend in with it. They are used to add texture and colour to your room so choosing the ones that match what’s already in the living space is a complete waste of a good cushion!

Decide on the Shape, Size and Style of Scatter Cushions
Choosing scatter cushions of the same exact size can make the living space look dull and feel somehow manufactured. You need to mix the sizes up. You can buy two cushions of different sizes for example, but similar patterns, and that will really alter the feel of the room. You can also stick to the same size but change the designs in order to make the look a little more exciting.

Decide on How You Will Display the Scatter Cushions
The way you arrange the cushions will determine the effect they create in the room. There is no single rule on how you should arrange your cushions. It all depends on the kind of look you want to give your living room. However, keep in mind the colours and sizes of the cushions when you are placing them on the sofa. You can try different arrangements see if you will like it and then change it. ( add some pics of different ways to lay out ).

Selecting the Right Type and Colour Fabrics
Scatter cushions should create a stylish and harmonious look. For this reason, you need to choose colours both plain stripe and or textured which compliment other items in the room. Look at your walls, coffee tables and curtains and choose cushions that complement these items.  ( Possibly show some good examples )

Decide on the Number of Cushions Needed on Each Sofa
Too many cushions can make the space feel overdone. The number of cushions you choose will depend on the size and type of sofa or chair in question. For example, if you have a 3 seater lounge, 2 to 4 cushions would be ideal. However, if you have a one seater, you should probably go for just one scatter cushion. As in other forms of interior design, if in doubt, less is usually more.
